Ways To Return To Work After A Long Break

Post-holiday blues can be really bad to deal with at work, irrespective of whatever reason you took the long break for. While some people take a break for traveling, others may take it because of illness or injury. Women also take a long maternity break. Whatever be the case, settling into work after a long break can turn out to be quite challenging for the first few days. Here are some ways to return to work after a long break.

Ways to return to work after a long break are:

1.Look for something new: Get a good idea of what’s been happening at work all this while. Is there a new project starting anytime soon? Signing up for a new project, or taking up a new task can motivate you to get back into the mood of working properly. It will be an exciting venture for you, and you won’t feel left out on that project unlike the other projects, because you’d be there on it right from the start.

2.Prepare well: It helps sometimes to take an extra day off to just go through all those emails that you missed out on while you were on a holiday. Also, you can take updates from your coworkers and get all the required information before you start going to office. That will help you to cover up for your absence, and will prepare you well for the next day. It is better to prepare well and then face your boss at work to take up challenges immediately, rather than knowing half information and then making mistakes in the following days.

3.Motivate yourself till the next break: If you’ve just come back from a summer break, then put a calendar on your desk and keep striking the days off till the Christmas break. That will help you to stay motivated as the days get lesser, and you can even be motivated to work harder and earn bonuses before the next break, so you can be more lavish on your next vacation.

4.Get back to your disciplined life: When you are on a holiday or a vacation, you eat a lot of junk food and enjoy other kinds of delicacies. However, when you are back to work, you need to make a conscious effort to get back into your usual eating and exercise regime. The sooner you do that, and the more you stop yourself from ordering food from outside during lunch breaks, the better it will be for you. When you get back to your disciplined life consciously, you stop being lazy, and your brain automatically signals your body to start focusing on work. That helps to avoid feeling low or deflated at work, and you can be enjoying your usual life in high spirits again.

5.Make your reason for the holiday a part of your daily life: If you had taken a long break because of traveling with family, then revisit those memories even after joining work. Use your lunch breaks and free time to browse through travel blogs, and leave advice and reviews for other travelers based on your experience. Similarly, if you had taken a maternity leave, then join some kind of parent-child activity classes in the evening post work, so that you can spend time with your baby. These kinds of things let you enjoy the best of both worlds and create a balance for you in your life. That means that you don’t crib about missing out on the other half when you have the first one. All these things make work fun and enjoyable, because you have something exciting around it – either before or after it. And that also means it’s not a sudden drop down in the mood meter! It is a balanced mood you enjoy all throughout.

All mature adults know that life can’t always be a party or a holiday, and it is important to focus on work and not lose your job. It’s only that some long breaks pamper us a lot, and we need to convince our body and mind to get back in the work mode again.
