Motherhood is an amazing thing. It gives you so much joy and makes you feel complete in more ways than one. But motherhood also comes with a lot of responsibilities and adjustments that you have to make. Some adjustments are professional and you can deal with it easily or with the help of your partner or family. If you are a working woman, then you will have to deal with the workplace too and the going there is not smooth or easy. Not only will you be applying for maternity leave but you will find that nothing will be the same once you get back to work. If you are getting back to your old job, there would be a lot of changes and you will have difficulty adjusting. If you are looking for a new job, there would be questions raised about your competency. Here are some ways to resume your career after maternity leave.

1.Stay in touch with the old office or colleagues: To stay up to date on what is happening at the workplace.It would be a little difficult to do, but it is also important that you stay in touch with the office to know what is happening and that there are no major upheavals when you are away. There are many instances of women being looked over for promotion or fired when they are out on leave. 2.Do some freelance work: No employer likes to see gaps in your resume and depending on how long you have spent with you newborn, the gaps may make or break your chances of getting hired. To show them that you have been productive and has been in tune with the current market trends, do some freelance work.

3.Allay any fears they might have over your competency: Every employer has his or her own doubts about how much time you can spend in the office and your efficiency levels once you have a newborn in the house. Make sure you work more than your normal levels when you are back from maternity leave so there are no doubts left in your employers mind about your competency levels at the workplace.

4.To maintain balanace: If you really want to maintain a balance between looking after your kid and working, you need to do a bit of research and look for a job that will let you have flexible timings.When you are at home, do a lot of research, go over job sites and also freelance working sites where you can find a job that would suit your needs. There are a lot of options of working remote these days and you can always find something that suits you.

5.If you are continuing with the old job, let them know about your new demands: If your baby is sickly and you have to go home a few hours to check or breast feed, it always helps if you could let your employers know. Depending on your employer you may get these hours to spend with your kid or leave early from work. The important thing is letting them know about your limits after the baby has come.
