Problems that are common during pregnancy are:

.Morning Sickness: This is a common discomfort for all pregnant women and it can happen at any time though the name is morning sickness. Though the exact reason for morning sickness is not known, the possible reasons for it could include increase in the oestrogen level, hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar caused by draining of energy) and increase in the level of progesterone hormone.Though morning sickness is common in pregnancy, don’t forget to consult a doctor if it persists beyond the first three months or causes weight loss.

.Fatigue: This is another common occurrence in pregnant women. A little stress can make you feel tired. It can also be caused if you have anaemia. Get enough rest during pregnancy. You are not really the one to chase the world at this time.

.Mood Swings: Since your hormones ride high and come low during pregnancy, you face emotional swings. Take care of your mind during this time. Take help of your loved ones. You can have an ice cream or a chocolate to better your mood, but don’t overindulge.

.Heartburn: It is always better to have small, frequent meals and not heavy, spicy ones. Don’t directly retire to bed after eating. But don’t self-prescribe antacids. Talk to a doctor first.

.Bleeding Gums: Take complete dental care during this time. Go to your dentist for check-ups. Bleeding of gums is a common occurrence during this time, thanks to a mild form of gum disease called pregnancy gingivitis. The gums undergo an inflammation during pregnancy partly because of the hormonal changes that make them vulnerable to bacterial inflation.

.Cramps: You can have cramps in the early months of pregnancy. When you have this, gently stretch your leg calf by curling the toes to the upward direction – towards the knee.

.Constipation: This is another common problem during pregnancy. To deal with this, have lots of fluids and fibre-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, etc. Fluids also help in overcoming dehydration, which can also be another reason for cramps. But don’t take laxatives without consulting your doctor.

.Hemorrhoids: Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the anus or the lower rectum. When you have them, don’t put much pressure at the time of bowel movements.

.Varicose Veins: Avoid clothing that is too tight on your legs and waist during pregnancy. Also, don’t stand for a long stretch, and have a walk around. The more your feet come under pressure, the more you have the chances of varicose veins.

.Frequent Urination: During pregnancy, hormonal changes can cause more fluids to flow quickly through the kidneys, filling up the bladder more often. During pregnancy, the amount of blood in the body increases till it is almost 50 per cent more than the pre-pregnancy stage. This causes extra fluid getting processed and ending up in the bladder. Hence, the urge to urinate. Frequent urination can also be influenced by pressure on your bladder by the growing uterus.
