The new Toyota Fortuner is scheduled to be launched in India on 7th of November. The Japanese automaker’s popular premium SUV, ready to receive a generation update, has been spotted testing in the country a handful of times already.
Additionally, Toyota has also started dispatching the new Fortuner to its dealerships across the country.
The new Toyota Fortuner SUV, available in a few international markets such as Australia and Thailand, premiered last year in Thailand. The SUV now comes sporting not only a comparatively striking and dynamic design but also receives a more luxurious cabin along with a myriad of new features and provisions.
It shares its platform with the Toyota Innova Crysta – the ‘Toyota New Generation Architecture’ (TNGA) platform, which is claimed to be lighter and stiffer and promises improved ride quality, handling, and safety.
The new Fortuner’s dimensions have changed a bit – it is now 90mm longer, 15mm wider, 15mm shorter in height and sports a wheelbase that is 5mm shorter than that of its predecessor.
The new Toyota Fortuner’s exterior features a new slimmer chrome grille flanked by a chrome slat on each side, sleeker head-lamps with projector units, LED daytime running lights and a distinctively moulded beefy front bumper with a central air dam and some additional chrome accents along the circular fog-lamps. Furthermore, the character lines on the SUV’s side profile are more subtle and the roof appears to have been lowered a little.
At the rear, it gets an electric tailgate and LED tail-lamps.
The cabin now offers a more premium feel, thanks to the generous use of soft-touch materials and leather seats. Toyota has also added a large touchscreen infotainment system display that sits in the centre of the dash with the controls for the air conditioning placed below it. It also receives a four-spoke steering wheel with mounted telephony and audio controls.
To be offered with an optional 4×4 layout, the all-new Toyota Fortuner will receive a wide range of engine options, including the all-new 148bhp 2.4-litre 2GD-FTV and 177bhp 2.8-litre 1GD-FTV diesel engines and a 2.7-litre petrol motor. It must be noted, all these engine options are also on offer on the Toyota Innova Crysta. For transmission duties, the new Fortuner will be get the choice of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
