Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said Kerala can buy electricity at lower rates if it faces power shortage.
“Right now, power is available at Rs 2.80 per unit. The state should buy it,” the Minister told reporters when his attention was drawn to the power crisis the state is set to face during this summer.
There is enough power available to meet the situation, the Minister said.
Launching a solar-powered boat service at Vaikom in Kottayam district, Goyal said the Centre would extend support to introduce more such boats in Kerala’s waters as it is keen to promote environment friendly projects.
The first solar-powered boat was launched recently by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi, Minister said.
