Actor Kalabhavan Mani was remembered on his 1st death anniversary on Monday.
A public meeting to mark the death anniversary of Mani was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in Chalakkudy on Sunday.
“Despite the fame and money he received as an actor, Mani was always there for his friends and the poor,” Vijayan said. He also said people in power should introspect as to why such a passionate human being and actor was ignored during his life time.
Vijayan also said that Mani’s contributions to various fields, including his popularity as a folk song singer, would always be remembered.
“Folk songs and folk artists gained recognition through Mani’s contributions,” he added.
Mani died at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Kochi on March 6, 2016 where he had undergone treatment for liver and kidney ailments.
He had won special jury National and state awards for his role in the popular film ‘Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njannum’. Mani had done films even in Tamil and Telugu languages and has gained prominence across south.
