Jacob Thomas moves HC seeking protection against ‘victimization’

Suspended senior IPS officer Jacob Thomas has approached the High Court seeking protection against the ‘victimization’ he is facing ‘for performing his duty’.

The court directed the Centre and the state government to file an affidavit in response to the petition filed by Thomas, former Director of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB), seeking to restore protection against victimisation, humiliation, retaliation, and harassment under the Whistle Blowers Protection Act.

On Monday, the state government had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Thomas for his comments regarding the alleged failure of the government in issuing timely warning about Cyclone ‘Ockhi’ to fishermen.

In a petition filed before the court, Thomas said he is being targeted for his stern anti-corruption activities and that he became a target of the IAS officers after a VACB team raided the residence of K.M Abraham.

The IPS officer has sought a court directive to probe whether he is entitled for protection against victimization, humiliation, retaliation, and harassment under Whistle Blowers Protection Act and anti-corruption policies of the government.

He has also sought a court order to grant him whistle-blower protection against victimization.
