Hearing on Dileep’s bail plea deferred to July 20

The Kerala High Court deferred to Thursday the hearing on the bail plea of actor Dileep, arrested for allegedly plotting the February 17 abduction and assault of a popular South Indian actress.

Justice B. Sudheendra Kumar deferred the hearing, turning down the actor’s fervent plea to hear the same urgently.

While deferring the plea, the court said it would first hear the prosecution’s argument against the bail plea on Thursday.

Though counsel for the accused repeatedly insisted for a urgent hearing of the matter, the court said the plea can be considered only after hearing the investigation agency.

Pleading innocence with the court, Dileep’s counsel said there was no material to implicate the actor in the case.

He argued that the actor was arrested on the basis of the statement by co-accused Sunil Kumar, alias ‘Pulsar’ Suni.

Dileep’s counsel said the police has arrested his client solely on the strength of the statement of the first accused, who is a notorious criminal involved in number of abduction and robbery cases.
