Harley-Davidson India, with 25 dealerships across India, has the largest sales and service network among the premium superbike brands in India. In terms of sales too, Harley-Davidson is the leading manufacturer of premium motorcycles, selling over 2400 bikes in the April to October, 2016 period, led largely by its popular and least expensive model, the Harley-Davidson Street 750.
With an owner- and rider-focussed marketing push, Harley-Davidson also has a first mover advantage in India, and is the market leader.
In comparison, Harley-Davidson’s closest competitor in India, Triumph Motorcycles has 14 dealerships across India, recently opening its second dealership in the national capital.
Triumph estimates sales of close to 1500 units in FY 2016-17, and expects to rapidly increase sales, particularly in the Rs 5 lakh and above market, which the company operates in, with its models. Harley-Davidson though is still well-entrenched in the market leader’s position.
For 2017, Harley-Davidson has upgraded its entire touring range with the new Milwaukee-Eight engine and all H-D models now come with standard ABS.
