Governor returns Devaswom Ordinance; seeks clarifications

The Kerala Governor has refused to promulgate an ordinance aimed at reducing the term of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) office-bearers from three years to two.

Justice (retd) P. Sathasivam returned the ordinance, seeking some clarifications.

The cabinet, at a special meeting, on Friday had decided to recommend the ordinance to the Governor.

Opposition parties Congress and BJP had challenged the decision, terming the ordinance a politically-motivated attempt to oust TDB president Prayar Gopalakrishnan and member Ajay Tharayil, who were the nominees of the previous UDF government.
