The Additional Sessions Court in Kozhikode on Thursday awarded three years imprisonment to Subramanian Namboothiri and Devika, the first and second accused in the murder of six-year-old Aditi S. Namboothiri in 2013.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Subramanyan Namboothiri, father of the deceased.
Aditi, was allegedly beaten and burned to death by Subramanian Namboothiri and step-mother Devika at Bilathikulam in Kozhikode on April 30, 2013.
The girl was admitted to hospital with bruises and burn injuries on different parts of her body including her private parts on the night of April 29.
Subramanyan Namboothiri was a priest of Bilathikulam Siva temple. Married thrice, Devika was earlier Ramla, a Muslim woman from Mankada, Malappuram district. Devika married Subramanian whose wife Sreeja was killed in an accident.
The post-mortem report had revealed that the girl was subjected to mental and physical torture several times earlier and the injury caused on the pelvic region had led to her death on the fatal day.
