14-yr-old girl dies of diphtheria in Kannur

A 14-year-old girl from Peravoor in Kannur died of diphtheria on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Sreeparvathy, was under treatment in a private hospital in Kozhikode, said District Medical Officer K. Narayana Nayak.

He said this is the first diphtheria casualty in the last many years in Kannur district.

Sreeparvathy, a class nine student of Santhiniketan English School in Peravoor, had fever and cough after an excursion to Bengaluru, following which she was taken to the doctors.

However, she was diagnosed with the disease only last week and there was no preliminary symptom which made the diagnosis difficult, said the DMO.
